Imjingak Park – tradition meets spirituality The Iron Horse train located inside Imjingak Park Imjingak Park was built as a safe space to console the refugees that came from North to South Korea during the Korean War. There is a railway connecting the two countries, which was taken apart during the conflict. Here, you will find Mangbaedan altar. This is where refugees bow to their ancestors as it looks in the direction of the graveyard. The tradition happens on Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). Following on, you can see the Unification Pond, which is built in the shape of the Korean peninsula and is a beautiful place to take photos! Finally, we can visit the Peace Bell in this area.

The Bridge of Freedom – a walk through history People walking across the Bridge of Freedom at Imjingak Park Next, on our DMZ Half Day tour, you will see the Freedom Bridge built to liberate 12,773 prisoners in 1953. The bridge was used by South Koreans returning home from the North. So dive into the cultural and emotional significance of the space by walking in their footsteps decades later! Located against a beautiful natural backdrop, the bridge is a fantastic place for photos, so get inspired and create some memories!

Explore the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Inside the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel during our half day DMZ tour A stop not to be missed on our itinerary is the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel. Located 12 kilometers away from Munsan and 52 from Seoul, the tunnel was discovered in 1978. Its purpose was to be used to invade the south. At 1,635 meters long, 2 meters high and 2 wide, the tunnel has the capacity of moving an entire division per hour! The curious fact here is that when the tunnel was discovered, North Korea alleged that the south had built it for a surprise attack, but evidence points to the contrary. Walking through will feel like you’ve stepped back in time! If you aren’t comfortable with closed spaces, you’re welcome to wait by the exit.

DMZ Theater – the past in action Tour group wishing for peace in front of a Reunification Statue At the DMZ Theater, you will have an opportunity to watch a short 7-8 minute video about the Korean conflict. The video provides a South Korean perspective on the Korean War, how the DMZ came about, and today’s current situation. It also gives some background to the infiltration tunnels that North Korea dug. Having just had the opportunity to walk through the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, it should be pretty enlightening.

Enjoy clear views at Dorasan Observatory Sitting at the top of Dorasan, the Observatory is ideal for looking across the border. Use the high powered binoculars on the third floor for extra precision. Jogyesa Buddhist Temple – travel back in time to Jogyesa Buddhist Temple located in downtown Seoul. Decorated with beautiful coloured flowers with tall buildings overlooking in the background The Jogyesa Buddhist Temple is one of the most important landmarks of Korean Buddhism, first established all the way back in 1935. The temple is located in downtown Seoul and is graced by an ancient white pine tree. There are a few important steps to entering the temple. First, you must go through “Iljum”, which is the one pillar gate. The “Iljumun” symbolizes the division between the world of the living and that of the holy Buddha world. You will have a beautiful spiritual experience and be able to admire the splendid, golden statues.

Gyeongbok Palace (Except Tuesdays) – live like a royal. Next up on our Seoul City Tour is Gyeongbokgung Palace. This was the main home of the Joseon Dynasty constructed in 1395. This is a stunning building with 7,700 rooms! The palace did take a few hits over the years, which makes it all the more interesting to see today! It was first destroyed during the Imjin War between 1592 and 1598. Then, Imperial Japan destroyed a large portion of Gyeongbokgung Palace in the 20th century. The palace, however, has been restored time and again, and is now close to its former splendor! You will be able to walk its magnificent premises and imagine what it was like to be a royal. The exact route depends on our knowledgeable tour guide. Some of the highlights here are Gangnyeongjeon, the king’s main quarters, Geunjeongjeon where the king accepted formal visits, Gyeonghoeru – the special banquet hall, and more! Please note that Gyeongbok Palace is closed every Tuesday. (Replaced Deoksu Palace)

National Folk Museum of Korea (Closed on Tuesdays) The National Palace Museum of Korea was initially established as the “Korean Imperial Museum” in 1908; however, it was renamed and relocated many times throughout its history. In addition, you can find 14 of South Korea’s National Treasures located here. Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge, a suspension bridge of 150m length and 1.5m width, is located in Solma-ri where Battle of Solma-ri, aka Battle of Gloster Hill, was held in 1951. The battle of Solma-ri is one of the representative battles fought by UN forces in the Korean War and has important meaning as it is recorded as a representative battle of isolation defense. During the battle, about 650 British troops sacrificed themselves against 25,000 Chinese troops for three days and it allowed the UN forces to redeploy their troops to stop the Chinese invasion of Seoul.
